St. Landry Parish School Board is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Sherika Guidry-Simon as the new principal of Opelousas Junior High School. Dr. Simon, a native of Broussard, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this important role.
After graduating from ULL of Lafayette in 2007 with a Bachelorâs of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in Special Education, Dr. Simon has relentlessly pursued further education. She holds Masterâs degrees in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education, and a Masterâs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her academic journey culminated with a Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision, equipping her with a robust set of skills to lead and inspire.
Dr. Simon has served in various educational capacities, most recently as Assistant Principal at Sunset Middle School for six years. Prior to that, she was the Administrative Assistant at Plaisance Middle School for three years. Her leadership and commitment to student success have been evident throughout her career.
As a proud wife, mother, and grandmother, Dr. Simon deeply values family and community. She is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and the Counseling Honor Society, reflecting her commitment to high standards and continuous improvement.
Upon her appointment, Dr. Simon expressed enthusiasm about her new role: "I look forward to working with the teachers, students, and community of Opelousas to make positive impacts on studentsâ lives!â Her vision for Opelousas Junior High School includes fostering an inclusive environment where every student can thrive.

St. Landry Parish School Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Whitney Zerangue as the new principal of Leonville Elementary School. Mrs. Zerangue is a native of Opelousas and a proud Ragin Cajun alumni.
Mrs. Zerangue completed her Masterâs Degree in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education in 2015. Her career in education spans several years, during which she has taught kindergarten, second grade, and physical education at Grand Coteau Elementary. Prior to her new role, she also excelled as an administrative assistant at Grand Coteau Elementary before joining the team at Leonville Elementary in 2022 as an assistant principal.
Upon her appointment, Mrs. Zerangue expressed her enthusiasm and commitment to the schoolâs future, stating, "I am truly honored and excited to continue my journey in education as principal at Leonville Elementary. I look forward to fostering an environment where students thrive and achieve their fullest potential."
The St. Landry Parish School Board is confident that Mrs. Zerangueâs expertise and passion for education will lead to significant advancements at Leonville Elementary School.
